The unexpected universe of Easypop lands in Rome: an explosion of icons and classicism.
What happens when the epic of superheroes that populate our collective imagination bursts into the solemnity of classical art?
The surprising and ironic answer is revealed in the spaces of Micro Arti Visive with the exhibition EASYPOP COLLECTION by the artist Roberto Mazzeo, aka Easypop, scheduled from 15 to 28 May 2025.
The exhibition, curated by Paola Valori for the Micro initiatives, invites you to an unprecedented visual short circuit where Bugs Bunny and Cupid and Psyche meet, Actarus assumes poses of an ancient hero and the impossible loves of mythology are tinged with an unexpected contemporaneity.
A painter and sculptor with a solid academic background, Roberto Mazzeo has been exhibiting throughout Italy for over ten years, distinguishing himself for a one-of-a-kind pop art production. His works create a stimulating visual narrative, reinterpreting masterpieces of the past through the inclusion of iconic characters from cartoons, comics and Japanese animation from the 80s onwards. This unusual combination reflects the complexity of our society, with its contradictions and fragilities. On the occasion of the EASYPOP COLLECTION exhibition, Mazzeo will present a broad overview of his last ten years of activity, with about forty works including paintings, sculptures and drawings. A particular focus will be dedicated to his most recent production, centered on the surprising technique of "strappo d'affresco". The artist creates frescoes on fresh plaster that, once dry, are transferred to canvas with a process that gives the work an unusual appearance, similar to a classic painting but with a completely original materiality and effect.
To enrich the exhibition, there will also be a selected number of ceramic sculptures painted with acrylic colors.
On the opening day, Thursday 15 May at 6:00 pm, the public will be able to immerse themselves completely in the universe of Easypop.
Following, at 7:30 pm, the Animated Concert: from Beethoven to Steel Jeeg Robot, a piano performance by maestro Alessandro Dilorenzo, will take place. Just like in Mazzeo's works, the concert will offer a singular mix between the solemnity of classical music and the energy of Japanese cartoon theme songs, creating a further form of artistic expression, dynamic and unexpected.
Curator and gallery owner Paola Valori comments: "Mazzeo does not stop at the glossy surface of pop culture, but goes to dig with intelligence and irony into our collective imagination. Even what seems ephemeral leaves a mark, has its own "sacredness" in our time. After all, behind every superhero, there is a little piece of our humanity that is just waiting to be recognized."
